IT security company Symantec Corp (NASDAQ: SYMC) announced on Monday (29 August) the Symantec Gateway Security 5600 network security appliances designed to proactively protect against blended threats.

According to the company, Symantec Gateway Security 5600 Series provides seven essential security functions, at the same time reducing the complexity of security management. Symantec's third generation security platform reportedly integrates anti-spam, antivirus, clientless SSL and IPSec VPN, full-inspection firewall, intrusion prevention, intrusion detection, and both dynamic document review and URL list-based content filtering technologies.

According to the company, Symantec Gateway Security 5600 Series offers current customers new security functionality using Symantec Gateway Security v3.0 software when installed on existing Symantec Gateway Security 5400 Series and Symantec Clientless VPN Gateway 4400 Series models. The software upgrade is reportedly available for free to the customers with active maintenance contracts.

Symantec Gateway Security 5600 Series appliances will be offered in three different models (5620, 5640 and 5660) in order to accommodate different performance needs. No pricing details were disclosed.
