Internet security company Sophos has completed research showing that 42% of all SMEs only update their antivirus software once a week or less.

In comparison, 29% of all larger companies update their antivirus software once a week or less. Other results found that just 46% of SMEs have installed antivirus e-mail gateway protection compared to 70% of larger companies.

A spokesperson for the company said that recent viruses are spread around the world in a matter of minutes and so networks of SMEs could be at risk.
