A trial anti-virus service for mobile phones has been announced by mobile operator Orange.

The pilot service is said to offer F-Secure's Mobile Anti-Virus solution and is available through Orange World. Orange said that an increasing number of viruses are affecting mobile phones, though the risk is minimal in comparison to those affecting the Internet and PCs. It claimed the trial would enable it to better protect the security of its customers.

According to F-Secure, the pilot service will allow the company to assess how mobile phone users feel about security for their phones and enable the development of future solutions. The service is available free of charge until 30 September 2005.
